Position Title: Director of Development

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, and Captain Michael King Smith Educational Institute is a mission-driven non profit committed to “inspire and educate, to promote and preserve aviation history, and to honor the patriotic service of our veterans”. Our 121,000 square foot museum houses over 80 vintage aircraft including Howard Hughes' legendary flying boat: the Spruce Goose. We also have Oregon’s largest 3D IMAX Theater and in July 2008 will be opening our new space museum which will add an additional 120,000 square feet of exhibit and event space.

We are currently accepting applications for a Director of Development. The Director will lead the development, planning and execution of a comprehensive, ambitious fundraising plan with an increased focus on sustainable support for operating and program expenses, and for capital investment in the museum. The incumbent will oversee all fundraising activities, and will be responsible for ensuring that processes and systems are in place to effectively support a high functioning development operation. The Director will be an integral member of the Evergreen Aviation Museum’s small but highly skilled team of professionals which include Directors of Special Events, Public Relations, and Education.

Responsibilities:
The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is building a world class Development Division to advance our mission and build a support base for new and expanding programs.  The successful candidates must be a strategic thinker with strong organization skills and attention to detail.  Additional responsibilities will include:

• Advising and working with the President and Board on achievable fundraising growth goals and annual targets.
• Work with the Development committee of the Board to maximize fundraising programs.
• Strengthen major donor support, increase corporate funding by establishing creative corporate sponsorship opportunities and increase the amount and sophistication of foundation grants.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or other related field.
• 5+ years’ development leadership experience in a nonprofit organization
• Extensive major donor, capitol campaign, prospect research techniques, and donor tracking systems experience and an excellent fundraising record
• Knowledge and expertise in principals of philanthropy and fundraising
• Able to maintain clear communication with internal staff -mostly volunteer- on all levels
• Proven written and oral presentation skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in various stages of development, each with a unique timeline
