Pre-registration is required for merit badge classes at the Museum. You can register by calling the Education Department at 503-434-4005, or by sending an e-mail to education@sprucegoose.org.

The classes will begin promptly at 9:30am and will be completed at 3:00pm.
Scouts will need to bring a pen, paper, and blue merit badge card form.
You may want to bring a copy of the Merit Badge Aviation book (though it is not required). Also, the class will have lunch at noon, so Scouts would either pack a sack lunch, or bring money to eat in the café.

This is a one-day class providing scouts with information and hands-on activities that help to demonstrate the significance of aviation while they fulfill their merit badge requirements.

The Space Exploration Merit Badge is a one-day class providing scouts with information on the history of space travel and the engineering involve in reaching the moon and beyond as they fulfill their badge requirements. This badge has three prerequisites that need to be brought upon arrival.
ITEMS INCLUDED:
Museum Space Tour, Rocket History, Function, Satellite Presentation - Manned and Unmanned Missions - Shuttle Operation, Apollo Space Video, Rocket Construction and Launch.

Explorers for Space Exploration Merit Badge Pre-Visit Requirements
1) Design a collector's card, with a picture on the front and information on the back, about your favorite space pioneer. Share your card and discuss four other space pioneers with your counselor.

2) Design an inhabited base located on the Moon or Mars. Make drawings or a model of your base. In your design, consider and plan for the following:
a.) Source of energy
b.) How it will be constructed
c.) Life-support system
d.)Purpose and function
3.) Research and write two to three paragraphs about two possible careers in space exploration that interest you, be prepared to discuss with the counselor. Find out the qualifications, education, and preparation required and discuss the major responsibilities of those positions.
