The first MiG-15 produced by the Soviets flew on December 30, 1947. Less than two years later, over Korea, United Nations pilots began to encounter the menacing MiG fighters flown by North Korean pilots. The MiGs seemed to fly in packs, and seemed to be a better aircraft at high altitudes. In 1951 during the Korean War, the U.S.S.R. sent engineers and specialists to China to build the fighters. The Chinese built trainer versions of the MiG-15, known as JJ-2s. Built in China, this MiG-15 UTI is a rare example of one of the first Soviet jet fighters.
